Knitting Pattern

Knitting Gauge:

Gauge (stocking st over 4 in = 10 cm): 17.0 sts by 20.0 rows.

Women's Sizes: (34, 36, 38, 40, 42)

Knitting Needle Size: 5 US

Back:

1. Cast on 81 (84, 90, 93, 99) sts.

2. Row 1: Knit

3. Row 2: Knit

4. Following the Dice Block Pattern above, work for 2 inches.

5. Change to stockinette stitch and work even until piece measures 10.8 ins 54 rows (11.2 ins, 56 rows)(11.6 ins, 58 rows) (11.6 ins 58 rows)(11.2 ins, 56 rows), excluding Dice Block border.

3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Knit 12 (14, 18, 20, 20) rows, while dec 1 st at each end of next and every following alternate row until 61 (62, 64, 65, 69) sts remain.

4. Change to Dice Block pattern and work even until armhole measures 8 ins 40 rows (8.4 ins 42 rows) (8.4 ins. 42 rows)(8.8 ins 44 rows)(9.2 ins 46 rows).

5. Shoulder shaping. Cast off 7(7, 8, 8, 8) sts at beginning of next 2 (2, 4, 2, 2) rows. Cast off 8 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts at beginning of next 2 (2, 4, 2, 2) rows.

6. Total 98 (102, 104, 106, 106) rows (excluding border) with 31 (32, 32, 31, 35) sts remaining for back of neck. Place sts on holder.

Front:

1-5 Follow steps 1 to 5 as for back.

6. Armhole. Dec for armhole at both ends, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 2.4 ins. 12 rows(2.8 ins. 14 rows)(2.8 ins 14 rows(2.8 ins 14 rows))(3.2 ins 16 rows), with 61 (62, 68, 71, 73) sts remaining.

7. Shape neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 15 (15, 18,20, 19) sts. Slip the next 30 (32, 32, 32, 34) sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work remaining 16 (15, 18, 19, 20) sts. Continue armhole shaping.

8 Work even until armhole measures 8 ins 40 rows (8.4 ins 42 rows)(8.4 ins 42 rows)(8.8 ins 44 rows) (9.2 ins 46 rows).

9. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back.

Sleeves:

1. Cast on 57 (60, 63, 63, 66) sts.

2. Knit 2 rows.

3. Work in Dice Block pattern for 1.5 inches.

2. Change to stockinette stitch and work even until sleeve measures 3 inches.

5. Shape cap. Cast off 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) sts at beg of next two rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every row 2 (2, 5, 4, 3) times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 11 (12, 8, 10, 12) times, then dec 1 st at each end of every row 2 (2, 5, 4, 3) times. Cast off remaining 19 (20, 19, 19, 20) sts loosely.

Left Shoulder Seam:

1. Use backstitch to sew front to back along left shoulder seam.

Square Front Neckline:

1. With right side of work facing, pick up and knit 31 (32, 32, 31, 35) sts from back neck holder, 25 (26, 27, 28, 28) sts from left front neck edge, 31 (32, 32, 31, 35) sts from front neck holder, and 25 (26, 27, 28, 28) sts from right front neck edge. Total 112 (116, 118, 118, 126) sts. 2. Decrease 1 (1,1,1,0) st., knit to end of row.

3. Knit.

4. Knit in Dice Block pattern for 1.5 inches. As you do the pattern, work mitred corners every other row (right side) as follows.

Knit in Dice Block to last 2 st before corner st.
If the first st on your left needle is a knit st, work: SSK, K corner st, K2tog.
Otherwise (first st is a purl st), work: P2tog, K corner st, P2tog.
3. Cast off loosely in ribbing.

Finishing:

1. Sew side and sleeve seams using invisible seam. Use backstitch to sew remaining seams.

2. Sew in loose ends.
