Parmelia Saxatilus

The Parmelia saxatilus lichen is one of the crottle lichens and can be found on rocks, tree bark and walls. As a dye it produces reddish-brown or bracken colours. Alder bark can also be added to the dyebath.

Peltigera canina

Peltigera canina or Peltigera praetextata is found in grass, old tree stumps or rocks. Linen mordanted with alum yields a yellow dye. A soft pink can be produced with the addition of ammonia.

Lobaria Pulmonaria

Lobaria Pulmonaria (Sticta Pulmonaria) or lungwort is found in temperate forest regions, growing on old forest trees. This lichen gives an auburn colour with the boiing water method, or can also produce browns or yellow.

Umbilicaria Pustulata

Umbilicaria Pustulata or rock tripe s found on rocks in mountainous areas. When soaked in ammonia it gives a good red colour.
