Colour gamp baby blankets

"Here goes another attempt to show the blanket I wove for my niece which is a modified version of Gertrude's Fancy. Also included are several pictures of my first attempt at overshot, a pattern called Murphy's Diaper. Someone asked me if I managed to get the circles round, I think I did.
The idea for the baby blanket came from an older issue of Handwoven magazines. The one in the magazine used 8/2 cotton in various colors for the background and white ? for the pattern. I bought, years ago, a color gamp kit from Lunatic Fringe in Florida and decided to use it for the blanket. The kit was 10/2 cotton so we had to adjust the pattern a bit, the other problem was we didn't know if the kit contained enough yarn of each color. In the kit there are 20 different colors, aprox. 400 yards of each. Needless to say we did a lot of calculating trying to figure if there was enough and then plunged ahead. I used 12 different colors in the blanket set at 20 epi and 3/2 pearl coton for the pattern. Fortunately I had enough yardage of each color to complete the project with a tad left over. Would have liked to use 13 but the width of the loom limited it to 12. It's a 4 harness weave, six treadle with one foot or 4 treadle with 2 feet. So is the Murphy's Diaper pattern which came from the Portland Weaver's Guild Friendship Coverlet project, they sell copies of the patterns they used. I used it to weave a runner and some pillows over the protests of the instructor who thought I should try something easier for a first project.
