Sargeant Bay Wool Blankets and Throws

Our Sargeant Bay blanket is handwoven using 100% pure wool, spun at a woollen mill in eastern Canada. The warp is either natural white or grey in colour. The weft is hand-dyed using either environmentally friendly commercial dyes or natural dyes. The blanket is woven in a 3/1 twill design, creating both a light and a dark side to the hand-dyed blanket. (Indigo Blue and Madder Root show above)
The Sargeant Bay can be ordered in several sizes: a lap throw, single bed or queen size.

As all of our blankets are made by hand, please allow 6 -8 weeks for completion of your order, depending on yarn availability, and production scheduling.

Natural Dye Colours

The throws also come in naturally dyed solid colours. Please note that your computer display may not reproduce the colours accurately. Also each natural dye bath is different, creating a unique shade of colour.

CochinealCochineal comes from insects, Dactylopius caccus that feed on the prickly pear cacti, native to subtropical America. Cochineal yields reds, pinks, and purple shades.
CutchCutch is produced from a small tree native to India and Burma, Acacia catechu. Cutch gives tans, rusts and brown colours.
IndigoIndigo blues and greens have been used by dyers for the past 4000 years. Indigo can be produced from several plants, the main ones are from Indigofera tinctoria, and I. suffruticosa growing in tropical regions of India and South America.
LogwoodLogwood produces shades of pink, purples and blues. Haematoxylum campechianum is a tree, native to the Yucatan Peninsula.
BrazilwoodBrazilwood colours of crimson, purples, pinks and corals come from 3 different tropical trees. Haematoxylum brasiletta, Caesalpinia sappan and C. echinata.
