Karelian Style Belts | |
| In Karelia and in other parts of Finland narrow belts and braids were woven using cards (or tablets) or small hand-held rigid heddle looms. The woven belts or braids were used for decoration for skirts, for decorative edgings on clothing, hat trims or as laces for boots and shoes. | |
| Different regions in Finland had their own characteristic designs or colours. | |
| These belts are handwoven with pure cotton, linen or wool yarns using traditional weaving methods. Wear them as a belt or use them as trim for clothing, handles and edgings for bags | |
| Karelian style belts can be custom ordered in a selelction of colours and designs. Prices start at £.80 per cm. Please contact me if you would like to place a special order. | |

| My Karelian Heritage | |
| My mother was from Viipuri, Karjala, (Vyborg, Karelia) and she was a weaver. During the war, she kept our family alive and fed, by weaving for her living. Once she immigrated to Canada, she no longer had a loom, but continued to love the fibre crafts. At an early age, I learned to knit, crochet and sew, from her example. | |
