Beginner Wet Felting Workshop

Learn the basic steps of wet felting by making a small picture. Wet felting uses simple materials of wool fibre, water, soap and bubble wrap. You will learn how to layer the wool fibres and use wet felting methods to create a smooth piece of felt.
You will make a small felted free form picture of your own design. Come along with some ideas of shapes and colours you make like to make.
The finished felt piece can be hung on its own or stitched onto a sewn pillow or bag.

Felt a Beret

Learn to felt a French style Beret hat using a resist. A resist is used in felt making as a form to create the basic shape of the hat. Once the hat has partially felted, the resist is removed and the additional felting is done to further shrink the wool. Then the hat is stretched onto a hat form to shape the hat to the correct size.
After the hat has dried you can sew on a leather trim. A strip of soft reindeer leather will be provided.
I provide fine quality merino wool for the feltmaking. This creates a very soft, non-itchy and comfortable to wear hat.
This feltmaking course is designed for those with some experience in felting.

Learn how to make flat piece of felt using a wet felting method. Even if you have some experience with wet felting, I recommend that you start with this class before moving on to 2 sided felting for items such as hats, bags, slippers, as I use a slightly different method of wet felting than most.
This work shop will teach you the basics of wet felting. You will make a flat piece of felt. Wool shrinks approximately 20% – 30% when it felts. The finished size approx 12″ x 16″. The finished felt would be suitable to sew into a cushion cover, a small bag or as a wall hanging.
We use a lot of water and soap in felt making, so please bring along an old large size towel, and wear comfortable clothes, that you don’t mind getting slightly damp. If you would like to make a picture, bring along a cartoon sketch of your project.
The fee will cover costs of all materials and supplies to make your project. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be provided.
