Over the coming weeks, I will be offering some new weaving courses, designed for the Intermediate or more experienced hand weaver.
The workshops will specialize in Scandinavian traditional weave structures.
The weaving workshops will be offered as 1 or 2 day courses.
4 Shaft Table Looms will be pre-warped and ready to go.
Other weaving yarns and materials will be provided.
The workshops will take place in my home studio.
I can accomodate up to 2 persons per class.
Please contact me if you are interested in any of these workshops and would like to be kept informed of further information.
I will also update information about the workshops via Twitter.
Some of the new weaving workshops will be: Rya Rug Weaving Workshop
This beginner weaving workshop is designed for those who are interested in learning to weave, but have never woven on a loom before. It is an introductory weaving course that will give you a chance to learn to weave on a few different styles of table looms. Before you delve into the more complex issues of how to warp the loom, how to calculate how much yarn you need, how to design or choose a pattern, I think it is best to try to weave something to see if you like the process of weaving and creating cloth, before you purchase a loom.
Since I was diagnosed with breast cancer several months ago, I have had to reduce the number of workshops that I can provide per month. I am doing better healthwise now, but have to be careful not to take on too much at once.
I have a waiting list of those who have enquired about workshops. Your understanding and patience is appreciated.
4 Shaft Table Loom
The beginner weaving workshop will be taught on a pre-threaded 4 shaft Ashford table loom.
The Ashford Table Loom has been pre-warped with multi-coloured cotton yarns and has been threaded to a variation of twill pattern designs. Using the table loom you will be able to weave a small tea towel and experiment with the use of colour and pattern in the project.
Rigid Heddle Loom
The rigid heddle loom is a 2 shaft loom that is suitable for weaving simple cloth such as wooly scarves or placemats using thicker yarns. You can also do free-form weaving with thick multi-coloured yarns creating a tapestry style of weave.
The Ashford rigid heddle loom has been pre-warped with rug yarn warp that is suitable for free-form tapesty weaving.
A selection of hand spun and commercial weft yarns are available for you to weave with to create your own table mat or free-form design.
